India(Earth) : What are you doing for your nation (and planet)?

Many of us blame the government and the system that they are corrupt and are not doing enough for the nation. I ask each one of us, that includes me, Have we ever even thought about doing something that could bring prosperity to our nation, economic and societal growth?

A nation where amidst 125 crore people, 68.7% people live below $2 per day. 30 crore people are below the Indian poverty line i.e. 32 rupees per day which is needless to say about half a dollar. I am not asking you to donate money so these people could eat. The poverty is merely the symptom.

Like you don’t keep popping only paracetamols during a bout of typhoid, but also run the course of antibiotics to get rid of the germs, I ask each one of us to become one dose of antibiotic for the disease which is not poverty but exclusive growth. If we really want India to be a first world nation, a developed country, we are not to ignore people who are economically weaker, people who have difficulty getting hands on opportunities.

What can you, personally do to improve India? Think about it, there are plethora of problems that need solving. We needs analgesics and antibiotics both to treat our sacred nation. The NGOs, the government subsidies act as analgesics providing intermittent relief. But as I have said before and I repeat, we need more than that. What are our antibiotics? The education system, the industries that provide employment, the huge number of youth that can be skilled to treat the nation of poverty, backwardness and exclusive growth of one class.

Let the government do their thing, if they are not doing it right we have all the right in the world to raise voice against them. But only if we are doing our bit. Many of you at this juncture would like to reason that it is not practical to leave all of our life and responsibilities towards our friends and family and work for nation. Many would argue I am just another person it would not matter if I don’t do this, there are many others who will do something. Yet another bunch of citizens will say what can I do, I am not powerful, have money and blah blah.

To all of such people I would like to say, please stop making excuses and start doing something. Even if you start teaching the children of the maids that come to your home for a few hours every week you are building a better India.

To the more courageous ones, the really ambitious guys and girls I would want them to set visions for their lives in tandem to the Nation. Look at the Ratan Tata, the man is rich, happy and is making thousands of Indian families happy by providing them with employment. Look at people like Bill gates, does he really need to come down to Bihar all the way from USA and sit in a village with absence of toilets and solve their problems?
Look at Sir Richard Branson, what does he lack in life? and yet he tries every bit to solve conflicts on global scale. All these people are mortal human beings like you and I are.

I intend to train more than 10 crore people in my life time so that they may live with dignity and pride. So that their families will not sleep with empty tummies. I am working towards my vision for the world and for my nation, I am going to study for an MBA for next two years and afterwards will come a start up.

What are you doing for your India? Except for those who are forever complaining and making excuses?
What do you plan to be? An analgesic? An antiobiotic or a placebo? Making yourself believe that this life that you are living the way you living is all you can do, Is that true? Is that enough? What if Gandhi thought like that? What if Sardar Patel gave up on his mission of unifying India? What if Abraham Lincoln gave up on America during the civil war?
If you try you can always find a way to live the life the way you want it and yet contribute to this world. Money is not the only thing we should work for, it is important that is no doubt but what is the bigger purpose?

What is your ideal life like? A penthouse apartment,a BMW or audi to drive, A wife (or a husband) who loves you, a couple of kids, weekend parties with friends, an occasional game of golf, yearly trips to exotic locations? If it is, I would say keep it, but add some more. This more is what you will remember on your death bed. This more is what people will remember after you are gone.

There are enough problems in the world that need solving, and there are more than enough people with the potential to solve them in less than a decade. What we lack is a sense of will, a vision and beliefs to go and get it done. There is a problem of unemployment, there is a problem of poverty, lack of good education, lack of basic sanitation, the problem of disguised unemployment, problem of less than adequate skilled people, environmental problems, there seems to be no end to the list.
Do you think you can do better than getting a job that pays well? Can you? I’d be glad to know.

In the face of Death : A story

Death was certain, maybe in a few days or in a few months.
The Doctor told me I had skin cancer, fairly advanced and terminal.
I had difficulty walking now. Even picking up a phone and talking to people was getting difficult.

When they broke the news to me, first thing I feared about was my dreams, they were no where near completion. I did not want to die unfulfilled. I wanted to live my dreams and then go, not before that.
And then I thought of you, at first I thought I should tell you how much you mean. But in an instant I decided otherwise, I did not want to hurt you. Telling you this and then going away, I couldn’t be this selfish.

There is a funny thing about dying, it makes you understand what is important, and it doesn’t even take a second. The answers are crystal clear. We spend each day trying to kill time, and when things turn around, time gets on to us, we set ourselves straight.

There is urgency because there is no time left. You don’t care about TV or even about what’s in the news or what’s going on in the college, what you want at that moment is the most important thing in your life. Those are the priorities, get to them. Otherwise you’ll regret wasting your time doing things you did not really need to do. Killing time. You’ll feel like you are dying each moment before death if you don’t do what’s in your heart.
Don’t commit the same mistake I did, listen to your heart while there is still time. They say a dying man does not tell lies, so listen to me. I don’t have much time left, but you do.

Wake up. Find out what’s important to you, get to it. You don’t want to die without listening to your heart, because right now you can ignore it, because it whispers, but when you don’t have time, it begins to scream. It knows that it is either now or never.

Then, you can’t ignore it. I could not move. I just did not have the stamina to walk anymore. They came and put me on a stretcher. I was lying on my bed, I spend most of my days lying on the bed. I know it’s just a matter of few more days, probably a week or two. But in this time I want to touch as many lives as possible. I want to tell them to go after their dreams. I want them to not regret, because this has been my dream. Pushing people over the edge, making them remember the dreams they had as a child.

The nurse comes with the soup bowl in her hands, I am too weak to eat anything else now. I talk to her about her dreams, she tells me this is what she has always wanted to do. She said she wanted to help people so she became a nurse.

I’m glad that people still listen to their hearts. I hope you will too.

My parents want to gift me a hefty pricey phone for my birthday on 11 March, and as I am in love with gadgets logically, I should grab it with both hands. But for some reason I feel like it’s a waste of money when my current(not so advanced) phone is working well and good.

This is giving me some strange feelings. All the time, I am focused on acquiring things, this and that. Refusing this phone, feels very natural to me.
I feel that it won’t add much value to my life.

As this all is happening around me, I have a sense of wonder, what if someday I feel that about everything I own in life. What then?

What is important?
What is that adds value to life?
Why do I desire things that I desire?

Maybe I want a lot of things to fulfill my ego, to feel superior to others.
This brings me to another question now, is there a way to make all desires as irrelevant like this one?

and if these things are not important, what is?

What is that which actually adds value to life, that makes us happier, more alive?

Have you ever felt something like this in your life?
Share your experiences.

Co-incidences? : Maybe the world is trying to tell you something.

The very presence of one single person who accepts you completely as you are, this simple yet rare event tells you, makes you believe that as you came across this one person, there are others out there, others like you are and the best part about it is that neither you or the other person is perfect but even then you accept them you choose to look beyond their faults.

My Random Thoughts : Lend me a hand on this one.

Sometimes I think, what if you are not for real. What if this whole world around me is just a dream and only I am real. That you do not exist, you are nothing more than a figment of my imagination that I have managed to materialize in my reality. What if there are a million other worlds, what if everyone has one such world. In your world, my existence is merely to facilitate whatever you want to get accomplished. You have a world entirely your own, I have a world entirely my own, but what if these two worlds overlaps. What happens then?
Maybe your energy makes a new you for my world and my energy makes a new me for yours and both can stay happy with their editions of me and you. What do you think?

Direction or Speed?

The fact that at times we set our goals following other people, we try to reach that goal as soon as possible and yet, when we reach there we find ourselves unfulfilled.
Take time to find out what your heart desires, take time to choose the road that feels best for yourself and then even if you reach the destination some time later, you would not regret it.
You would not regret it because you’ll love the journey if this goal is in alignment to your heart’s desires.

How I completed the first draft of my first novel : It’s easier than you think

After about a few months of ramblings and procrastination, I found out that I still wanted to write a book. I decided to do what I do when I need help in doing something.
I looked around for people who had written a book and ask for their advice, although not personally but with the power of internet and Google, I did just fine.

On a blog, I don’t remember which one, don’t ask me, eh. I read about NaNoWriMo i.e. National Novel Writing Month. Continue reading
