A scholar turned zen monk came to visit a Zen master, and told him he wanted to help people attain self-realization. The Zen master did not respond and instead invited the scholar for a cup of tea.
The master brings an empty kettle and imitates the action of pouring the tea in the cup. The scholar is dumb-founded.
“There is no tea in the kettle, Sir” exclaims the scholar!
“Exactly, how can you help people do what you have not done yourself as yet?” says the Zen master.
